JOHN ROE and ALCOR LIFE EXTENSION CASE NO. C 697 147
The court having read and considered the application of plaintiffs Richard C. Jones,
designated as "John Roe" in the complaint and the first amended complaint on file herein, and
Alcor Life Extension Foundation ("Alcor") for a temporary restraining order and for an order to
show cause re preliminary injunction and, further, having considered the points and authorities
and declarations filed in support thereof, finds that this is a proper case for the issuance of a
temporary restraining order and order to show cause and, based thereon, orders as follows:

IT IS ORDERED that on October 28, 1988 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 47 of the within
court, defendant Sherman Oaks Community Hospital ("SOCH") and its agents, servants,
employees, attorneys and all other persons under its direction of control or acting in concert with
it, show cause, if any such they may have, why during the pendency of this action they should not
be enjoined pending the trial of this action from engaging in or committing the following:
preventing, restricting or in any manner whatsoever interfering with the application of a
portable rescuscitator, after pronouncement of his "legal death" by a licensed physician,
to the body of Richard C. Jones at the hospital facility located at 4929 Van Nuys
Boulevard, Van Nuys, California, for such period of time, not to exceed two hours, as
shall be necessary thereafter to accomplish the release of the body of Richard C. Jones to
a licensed funeral director and the transport of his body, after application of the portable
rescuscitator, from the hospital.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that defendant SOCH and its agents, servants, employees,
attorneys and all other persons under its direction of control or acting in concert with it, are
hereby temporarily restrained until the hearing on the said Order to Show Cause Re Preliminary
Injunction, from engaging or committing the following:
preventing, restricting or in any manner whatsoever interfering with the application of a
portable rescuscitator, after the pronouncement of his "legal death" by a licensed
physician, to the body of Richard C. Jones at the hospital facility located at 4929 Van
Nuys Boulevard, Van Nuys, California for such period of time, not to exceed two hours,
as shall be necessary thereafter to accomplish the release of the body of Richard C. Jones
to a licensed funeral director and the transport of his body, after application of the
portable rescuscitator, from the hospital.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that any additional papers to be filed on behalf of plaintiffs
in support of their application for preliminary injunction be filed and served (by messenger) on or
before October 20, 1988, that any opposing papers be filed and served (by messenger) on or
before October 26, 1988, and that any reply papers be filed and served (by messenger) on or
before October 27, 1988.
